INVESTMENT TEAM

The Investment Office, headed by the CIO, includes seven investment and administrative professionals and makes use of interns who are current Georgetown students. The office adds value through asset allocation and the selection of investment managers. On a day to day basis, the CIO serves as a member of the President's Executive Committee and works closely with the university's chief financial officer and the Office of Advancement.


Staff Biographies

Larry Kochard was appointed chief investment officer at Georgetown University in June 2004. In October 2007, Georgetown University was honored as "Large Endowment of the Year" by Foundation and Endowment Money Management, a publication of Institutional Investor. In addition to serving as CIO, he teaches investment courses for the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown. Previously, Larry was managing director of equity and hedge fund investments for the Virginia Retirement System (VRS) and adjunct professor of finance for the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia. Prior to joining VRS, he was a full-time faculty member at UVA. Before his return to academia, Larry's background was corporate finance and capital markets, concluding with Goldman Sachs. He serves on the board of Janus Capital Group and as chairman of the College of William & Mary Investments Committee. Larry is the co-author with Cathleen Rittereiser of Foundation and Endowment Investing: Philosophies and Strategies of Top Investors and Institutions. Featuring profiles of successful chief investment officers, the book was published by John Wiley & Sons in December 2007. Larry holds a BA in economics from the College of William & Mary, an MBA in finance and accounting from the University of Rochester, an MA and PhD in economics from the University of Virginia, and is a CFA charterholder. He is married and has four children.

Christine Kelleher is an investment officer with the endowment and primarily responsible for non-U.S. and private equity investments. She joined the Investment Office at its founding in July 2004. Previously, Christine worked in the Center for Eurasian, Russian, and East European Studies in Georgetown's School of Foreign Service. From 1995 to 1999, she served as a member of the management team and as an officer to the Board of Trustees of the Central European University in Budapest, Hungary. She has also worked as a freelance editor. Christine received a BA in international relations and Russian from Bucknell University and studied at Leningrad State University during her undergraduate career. She holds an MA in Russian and East European studies from Georgetown University, where she also completed coursework towards a PhD in history.

John Marron joined the Investment Office as an investment analyst in 2004. He is focused primarily on public equity and hedge fund investments. Prior to joining Georgetown, John was a senior analyst at Callahan & Associates, a small consulting firm in Washington, DC. John holds a BS in commerce from the University of Virginia's McIntire School of Commerce with a concentration in finance and is a CFA charterholder.

Nicholas Gerow has worked as an investment analyst at the Investment Office since 2005 and focuses primarily on real assets and commodities. From 2001 to 2005, he held various positions, most notably serving as equity analyst and chief operating officer at Hudson Canyon Investment Counselors, an investment advisor offering equity and balanced portfolio management to Taft-Hartley, pension, foundation, endowment, institutional, and high net worth clients. Nick graduated from the University of Virginia's McIntire School of Commerce with concentrations in finance and management information systems.

Adela Skenderasi joined the Investment Office as an operations/investment analyst in August 2006.  From 2004 to 2006, she worked in the Office of Financial Affairs at Georgetown University as a senior financial analyst for plant and property accounting.  Prior to joining Georgetown, Adela worked for one year at Fitzgerald, Snyder and Co., a local CPA firm in Northern Virginia.  Adela holds an MBA with a concentration in finance from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Alex Christine Douglas joined the Investment Office in 2007. Previously, she worked for the Crown Publishing Group at Random House in New York and for the Atlantic Monthly Foundation in Washington, DC. Alex graduated from the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University where she earned a BSFS.
