Users have the ability in Peoplesoft to delete one or more individual journals lines in journals that have not successfully passed budget check or have posted.  Users may want to use this function to delete certain lines that are in error to allow the rest of the journal to post or to delete lines that were entered inadvertantly.  The following steps illustrate how to delete journal lines.

1.  Follow the navigation Start > Process Financial Information > Process Journals > Use > Journal Entry > Journal Entry Lines > Update/Display

2.  The selection criteria panel will appear

3.  Enter the number of the journal for which you need to delete lines and click "OK"

4.  The journal lines panel will appear

5.  Place the cursor in a field on the line you wish to delete.  (Line 5 in our example)

6.  Click the  icon on the upper tool bar to delete the journal line

7.  You will note that the journal line disappears (in our example journal line goes from 4 to 6)

8.  It is important to note that after deleting a journal line, the journal will usually be out of balance.  You should either modify an existing debit/credit amount or delete the offsetting journal line to balance the journal again.  An unbalanced journal will not post.

9.  After you have deleted the appropriate lines and/or modified the journal, hit the  icon on the upper tool bar to save the journal.

Users have the ability in Peoplesoft to delete entire journals if those journals have not yet successfully passed budget check or posted.  The following steps illustrate how to delete a journal.

1.  Follow the navigation Start > Process Financial Information > Process Journals > Use > Journal Entry > Journal Entry Lines > Update/Display

2.  The selection criteria panel will appear

3.  Enter the Journal Id of the journal you wish to delete and click the "OK" button

4.  The journal lines panel will appear

5.  Click on the  icon on the middle tool bar to delete the journal

6.  You will receive a warning message

7.  Click "Yes" and the journal will be deleted.
