EXCESS PROPERTY BULLETIN
March 9, 2012
This bulletin lists items for sale or donation by university departments. Priority is given to other university departments for the first two weeks of a listing, after which equipment is available to anyone for any use. Items may be dropped from the bulletin after three months of no activity. Sales tax MUST be collected for all sales to entities that are not tax-exempt. Contact Tax Department for the correct account codes to use to deposit tax revenue from equipment re-sales. See the end of this bulletin for applicable tax rates. The sale revenue itself should be deposited into the account code from which the equipment was originally purchased (contact Property Accounting for that information).

The Maintenance Control Department will arrange for pick up and delivery of items for a fee; call them at ext. 7-3432 for this service. Arrangements for pick up and delivery of items on the Excess Property Bulletin and any associated charges must be negotiated between the buyer and the seller. The Surplus Property Stockroom at New South may also be of assistance in disposing of items not sold on this bulletin. Please contact John Miller at extension 7-2033 for more information.
Notify the Property Accounting Department upon
completion of the transaction by using an Equipment Disposal Form for
all equipment disposals and transfers.
Use an Equipment JV Form for all transfers of equipment involving
dollar transactions between departments.
Both are available from Property Accounting and on the Georgetown
University Home Page under ‘University Administration / Financial
Affairs’. Send both forms directly
to Property Accounting at
Sales tax must be collected on ALL sales of equipment. The applicable tax rates are as follows: DC – 6%;VA – 5%;MD – 6%. The rate to use is determined by where the buyer picks up the equipment.
